CODE PIE

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Code Pie[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] We haven’t been able to sleep with excitement since Code Pie joined us as their upcoming album ‘Love Meets Rage’ sounds like the most ambitious and wonderful album we’ve heard for a long long time. You’ll find out on April 5th 2011 what’s making us so giddy. Full bio here. [/column]

DOLFISH

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Dolfish[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] With the passage of time we’re not sure whether Max Sollisch will be best known for Dolfish, Arlo & The Otter or some band he has yet to form. The point though is that he will be well-known some day and for the moment we’re so glad he’s ours. [/column]

CANDY CLAWS

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Candy Claws[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Kay and Ryan love the world so it would probably be a much nicer place if they ended up ruling it. Until that happens though we’ll have to settle for basking in the warm glow that they create. Despite being indebted to technology their music is shaped by beautiful natural forces. ADAM & DARCIE

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Adam & Darcie[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Adam and Darcie Sanders and their gentle recordings certainly put the awwwh in Utah. They record their music at home, slowly and with great care. The result is a joyous blend of harmonious and contemplative indie pop. [/column]

IN MOTION

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]in-motion[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Long since departed but much-loved quartet who made one of shoegaze’s most swoonsome records. Can be found scattered around the Dublin landscape in various projects including Decal and the Last Post. No Disco loved them so that’s reason enough for you to do the same. [/column]

MUMBLIN’ DEAF RO

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Mumblin' Deaf Ro[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Purveyor of homemade truths via an acoustic guitar and his own thoughts Mumblin’ Deaf Ro is a Dublin institution. He records albums with the regularity of World Cup’s but it’s always worth the wait. He’s going for a hat-trick at the moment. [/column]

THE VERY MOST

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]the-very-most[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] The Very Most have been on our radar since early 2008. We were instantly sold on their sucrose melodies and jangling chords. The band come from far away and although we are separated by a great expanse of water we share a love for all things indie pop. In 2009 we are going to release 4 EP’s together, each will be named after a season. Read a full bio here. [/column]

THE BRILLIANT TREES

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]The Brilliant Trees[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] We’ve never understood why the Brilliant Trees weren’t huge. I mean they wrote anthems with cascading harmonies and chiming guitars and it doesn’t get much better than that in our book. ‘Friday Night’ was their debut album and a decade after it came out it still gives us tingles of joy. MICHAEL KNIGHT

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Michael Knight[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] One listen is all it took for us to fall for the indiepop charms of Michael Knight’s ‘Youth Is Wasted On The Youth’. In fact in many ways it makes us feel proud to be Irish that an album of such distilled brilliance could appear from these very shores. Who needs Belle & Sebastian when you’ve something better just around the corner. [/column]

SUNBEAR

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Sunbear[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Debut albums aren’t supposed to sound this ambitious but there was something in the water in Dublin 1 in 1994. Sunbear have gone on to become the Ruby Tailights and to the relief of all concerned continue to make sweet music. Rumours about old Sunbear songs creeping into new sets has us foaming. [/column]

RED STAR BELGRADE

[column width=”30%” padding=”4%”]Red Star Belgrade[/column]

[column width=”39%” padding=”3%”] Back in the day when such things were de-rigeur not many mixtapes that we made came without ‘Saddest Girl’. It was a quieter moment from the North Carolina act that had the critics in the palm of their hands for a time. We’ve reissued their debut album and it is a wonderful demonstration of hard hitting yet beautifully constructed vignettes. What remains of Red Star Belgrade can now be found in Toronto and a comeback has been mooted. [/column]
