Sing Up For The Boys In Green

Back in the summer of 2010 we undertook a mammoth task to get 32 bands to record a song for each of the competing nations in the World Cup in South Africa. Fast Forward turned out to be an epic so for Euro 2012 we decided to slim down and focus on one competing nation. And what better country than good auld Ireland who are making their first appearance at the Euro’s since 1988. The brief we gave the contributing bands was to keep it Irish football related and as you’d expect one or two familiar themes emerged.

Sing Up For The Boys In Green plays out chronologically, with John Aldridge’s frustrating altercation on the line at USA 1994 kicking off proceedings. The man who split a nation in 2002 features heavily for a couple of tracks and the jury appears to have sided with his nemesis. Once that national tragedy is out of the way it’s time to get down to the here and now. Everyone knows Ireland don’t have the most gifted of squads at the championships but no team will match them for passion, dedication and the will to win. This album is dedicated to their efforts.

We hope that you can draw on something from this compilation to colour your football experience over the summer. And when it is all done and dusted we can proudly and forever Sing Up For The Boys In Green.

Finally, a big thank you to all the contributing bands (you can visit their websites by clicking on their names below) who come from all over Ireland and Idaho and California in the States. Alan Barrett has again worked his genius on the artwork and for that we are very thankful.
