Today marks the official release date for our very first ever CD (4 panel digipak, with lyrics and lots of sea creatures). Yep, no longer does the indiecater tagline ‘Quality Indie Music Downloads’ cover all bases because we have entered the realm of the physical release. In The Dream of The Sea Life by Colorado’s finest Candy Claws was all the persuasion we ever needed to make the giant leap – this music was just made for old fashioned home stereos.
In The Dream of The Sea Life has already been feted by Pitchfork, respected blog I Guess I’m Floating and ex Melody Maker (and Plan B Mag) stalwart Everett True but it has been the feedback from you that has consolidated in our minds what a special work it is. Ryan and Kay have taken their influences (the Beach Boys, My Bloody Valentine) and cast them in their own likeness. Their efforts have resulted in one of the finest pieces of electronica in all of 2009. This is an album containing eerie sounds from the depths of a place very few choose to venture, is laden with effortlessly melodious boy/girl vocals and presents instruments torn from their comfort zone and cast in brilliant new forms.

We’ve been at the cave door for months now tempting one of our favourite Irish bands out into the open. We knew they had songs in their locker that hadn’t seen the light for years and we were eager to show them off to the world. Well, today the foursome staggered into the open and brought with them 14 tunes that will be new to many of you (and me). They were all recorded in the 1990’s but Bits should entrall the new century. The Very Most’s 3rd EP this year is a mere few weeks away and the leaves are literally falling over themselves with excitement. Yep, we like nothing better than taking the month of June off every 4 years to watch all the World Cup action. Sometimes we even go through mental torture trying to decide whether football or music is our greatest love but the truth is we love them both equally. So with South Africa 2010 rapidly approaching we’ve taken it upon ourselves to give the 19th World Cup a soundtrack that is kind on the ears of those of the indie persuasion. What we’re planning is a compilation made up of songs written about each of the World Cup finalists. So that’ll be 32 songs in all! As you can imagine it’s a very tall order and with a not so grand indie tradition in several of the countries it may make for some interesting results.
If you are a band or solo artist and are interested in getting involved in this compilation please get in touch. It promises to give you decent exposure, a share of the royalties and will hopefully be a lot of fun. There is no limitation to which country you chose except that the song you write will need to be true to your adopted team.

Our favourite troubadour (must admit I never use this word in real life but on this page it looks lovely) is treading the boards for the first time since the arrival of his new son. Will he break down in paternal tears or instead just sing about livestock calving? Who knows, but one thing that is guaranteed is that Ro will lay on a splendid precursor to the main event William E. Whitmore in Whelan’s on April 20th (Monday). Have you heard his debut album yet (or the follow up for that matter), it’s brill so imagine the glee to be gleaned from hearing it live. Over the next few weeks you will start to see some ‘Spring’ revisions appearing about the place. That’s because we’ve passed the Very Most’s precious work to some brilliant minds. Their task will be to reimagine the tunes using nothing other than their own brainwaves (and probably some laptops). You’ll be able to hear the fruits of their labour on this very page.

22 Feb: Remix 2 is the work of Ben Ferris of Nonstop Everything and the Van Allen Belt. And it really does turn out to be a belter take on ‘Today It Is Even Better’. Only the keenest Very Most students will identify the original such is Ben’s radical reinvention of Spring’s opening track. This is free for a limited time to those who’ve already bought ‘Spring’.
